However, this material is generalized and should only be integrated into your diabetes management after discussing your specific needs with your diabetes team and physician. About Matt

Matthew Schoenherr, diagnosed with diabetes in 1993, is president and founder of Active Diabetes.  Matt has helped weekend warriors to college athletes improve their glucose control, helping them achieve higher level performance in a variety of sports.

Matt, a Certified Clinical Exercise Physiologist (CEP) through the American College of Sports Medicine and Certified Diabetes Educator (CDE), received his Master’s Degree in Exercise Science with a concentration in Diabetes, Cardiovascular Disease and Health Services Management through George Washington University.  At GWU, Matt lead the transformation of care and health education for Washington D.C.’s underserved communities at GWU Healing Clinic. HE also studied under the world-renowned diabetes author, Gary Scheiner. Previously, Matt graduated from Grand Valley State University in Grand Rapids, MI with a major in Biomedical Sciences and minor in Chemistry.

Currently based in San Diego, Matt takes advantage of living in this biotech hub, where is able to brush shoulders with some of the brightest minds in diabetes tech, care and research. Beyond diabetes, Matt is on the cutting edge as a stress physiologist at the Naval Health Research Center, where he studies the interactions of hormones’ and other biomarkers’ effects on physical and cognitive performance. He has also designed and manages Your Bridge to Health, a highly effective health and weight loss program at Sharp Coronado Hospital.
